JioPhone will not be supporting popular messaging app Whatsapp:Report

WhatsApp has more than 200 million users in India as of February 2017.Much-talked Reliance Jio’s JioPhone does not support popular messaging app Whatsapp, according to a report by Gadgets 360.

The 4G VoLTE feature phone comes pre-loaded with Jio apps and will also support Facebook and YouTube, however there is no functionality to support Whatsapp as of now. Also there are reports suggesting that an update may be rolled out or the feature may be introduced at a later stage to support Whatsapp.

Jio, however, is eying to leverage JioChat, a WhatsApp rival, in the new devices.

Also some media reports have suggested that the Rs 153 pack launched by the company for unlimited access to internet with half the price, will be having a daily usage cap of 500 MB after which the speed would throttled.

RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani stated in his AGM speech that out of 78 crore mobile phone users in India, 50 crore people are using feature phones and have not been able to become a part of the digital revolution.

Reliance Jio is targeting the 50 crore feature phone users that have not been able to access internet due to device affordability issues.

JioPhone will be available for trials from August 15 and the pre-booking will start from August 24.
