You remember the last time when Snapchat CEO allegedly called India a poor country. Many Indians ended up reporting the app on playstore or uninstalled it for ever.
Well, another such incident has happened again. This time Chinese electronics firm ‘Oppo’ has got itself into controversies. It is reported that the Chinese company“disrespects India and its culture”. According to the report, the Indian employees of the company were told by their HOD that “Indians are beggars”. He made this ugly comment when the employees demanded a hike in the salaries.
This didn’t go well with the Punjab service team who decided to reply them in their own style. The entire service team of Oppo Mobile in Punjab resigned claiming that the Chinese company “disrespects India and its culture”.
The resignation letter was shared on Twitter which mentioned that the HOD of OPPO has insulted India and was also forcing their Service Manager Arun Sharma.
We are OPPO Service Team Punjab & here we are resigning whole service team because our HODs is making pressure to our Service Manager Mr. Arun Sharma to resign, & by wrong pressure. He always disrespect our India Country & our culture. As per him we Indian only work for Money, & we are not having any dignity & self respect. He always makes us unnecessary penalty & wrong commitment.
He make us to work till late night & if we miss any report he create penalty.
When some employee asks for salary increment, he says Indian are beggars always asking for money.
There are a lot of other reasons too, but this kind of hitlership is not accepted any stage of private sector.
So kindly accept our resignation.
The resignation letter dated July 15, 2017 and was signed by Oppo Service Team Punjab and was forwarded to major dealers and distributors of the region.
However, the company claims it to be total miscommunication. They also said that none of the members who had signed the letter have resigned. Interestingly, the letter also mentions the name of an Oppo employee, who is actually in service with the Punjab team, but denies any involvement in the letter. The letter was shared on Twitter and its authenticity is not proved yet.
Arun Sharma (who was asked to resign according to the letter), the Service Manager informed Indian Express that no one from his team had resigned and the company is investigating the letter. He too denied mentioning if the letter was genuine and added, “We are looking who has done this and will initiate suitable action. We are not authorised to speak on such matters.”
The official statement from Oppo circulated to Indian Express reads, “We at OPPO India are aware of the recent report related to our Punjab Service team on July 15 and it had been resolved on July 16. The whole issue was due to the miscommunication between the two parties. The service team was upset over the manager being asked to tender his resignation because of inadequate work performance after several formal warnings for the same. But later, a consensus was reached and the concerned service team is continuing to work with us. OPPO has deep respect for India, its culture and our employees. We will try our best to avoid misunderstandings due to any form of miscommunication in the future
